Assessment of the Construct Validity of Virtual Interactive Case (VIC) Scores in Nursing cases

The Virtual Interactive Case (VIC) system allows nurse educators to create online simulations of patient encounters that students can use to practice conducting nursing assessments. The VIC case allows the student to take the patients history, conduct a review of systems and physical exam, order laboratory tests, review diagnostic images and consult with specialists in gathering the pertinent information to determine the patient problems that require nursing interventions. After the student has completed their assessment, they select the problems the patient is experiencing, and appropriate interventions that are necessary to deal with these problems. The program provides a debriefing with feedback regarding their assessment, including a score and the time and cost incurred in the assessment.
