New owners of Susan's Hot Mustard ride the hot seat to find new formulation
Denise Lorenz has an appetite for hot mustard. So much so that she decided to purchase Susan’s Hot Mustard, a product enjoyed by customers since 1970. One of Denise’s first challenges as a new business owner was duplicating the recipe from the remaining product they had on hand, translating it into something they could make themselves, and finding a new co-packer. Denise discovered the Food Innovation and Research Studio (FIRSt) at George Brown college. FIRSt reviewed the current formulation of the product and conceptualized new formulations, sourced alternative ingredients, and evaluated the current product’s traits.
