Design and Construction of a Building-Integrated Solar Thermal/Photovoltaic (BIST/PV) Test Hut
Amvic Building Systems/Kortright Center (TRCA)/Ryerson University
The Schools of Architecture and Apprenticeship and Skilled Trades from the Center for Construction and Engineering Technologies (CCET) at George Brown College are partnering with Amvic Building Systems, Kortright Centre (TRCA), and Ryerson University to design and build an integrated solar thermal / photovoltaic test hut located at the Kortright Centre. The project entails designing and building a test hut comprised of roof and wall structures with integrated solar thermal and photovoltaic panels (STPP). The initial STPP concept was created by Ryerson and is being designed so that it can be implemented with new and retrofitted structures. This project focuses on building a scaled 20’ x 30’ test hut made of insulated concreted forms (ICF) and integrated solar thermal and photovoltaic panels. It will have a flexible design so that sections of the wall can be removed and for testing purposes.
