Digital Interactive Tools for Sustainable Living

The focus of this project with the Municipality of Markham is to encourage the public to engage in more responsible and sustainable environmental behaviours through the integration of enhanced digital tools that can seamlessly improve people lives while removing the perceived “inconvenience” factor. The need for sustainable technology implementation has grown as global urbanization continues to increase. The importance of creating socially and environmentally responsible cities has grown as more than half of the world’s population now resides in urban settings. Part of a sustainable solution will include well-tailored uses for technology in people’s day-to-day lives. In this project, students from various disciplines will work together with the City of Markham to develop web tools that can address the needs of sustainable living. The end result will include video demos and prototypes of digital tools designed to seek further investment and eventually lead to the creation of applications, web tools and public interfaces that foster improved, sustainable lifestyles.
