Smart Connected Office Cubicles: Optimizing HVAC Energy Consumption

Camino Modular Systems Inc.

Camino Modular Systems and GBC are collaborating on a project to reduce energy consumption in an office environment by controlling the temperature and air quality at a specific cubicle instead of the entire office space. By monitoring cubicle occupancy and user preferences, the right amount of heating/cooling energy can be controlled to create a comfortable environment for the occupant while using energy only when needed, thereby reducing overall energy consumption. By utilizing the Camino modular raised floor system, students will then build a prototype cubicle with an under floor actuator operated air system. This will be followed by the design and construction of the monitoring and control system. Finally, students will integrate the cubicle data into the building automation system to prove the functionality of the concept.
