Tucker HiRise: BIM Models of Monde Condominiums

Tucker HiRise Construction Inc.

Tucker HiRise Construction Inc. is a Toronto based construction management firm, specializing in high-density, mixed-use developments. Tucker HiRise provides development management services, mixed-use construction, and pre-construction and construction management services for complex and high-profile residential ventures. Tucker is collaborating with the Centre of Construction and Engineering Technologies to create three dimensional (3D) Building Information Management (BIM) models of the Monde Condominium development, a 40 storey residential building located on Toronto’s Waterfront. The Monde condominiums are working towards Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification. The models will help Tucker HiRise reach their environmental achievement in green building construction by allowing for them to potentially expand the models to include energy modelling and costing. The outcomes of the project will be a level 200 structural and architectural model, a highly detailed, level 400 structural, and architectural model and an interior design model of the Monde condominium. These models will include electrical, mechanical, as well as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The models created during this project will be used to support construction coordination and the customization of unit interiors during the pre-construction phase. Currently, incorporating BIM practices into construction processes demands a high resource investment; this project is intended to help Tucker HiRise assess the value in dedicating resources to BIM construction techniques as opposed to on more traditional construction processes. The George Brown team will include four architecture and one interior design students who will create the models, designs, and renderings under the direction of Co-Investigators Dante Casasanta, B.Arch.Sci., M. Arch., MRIAC, Architectural Technologist, and Nakhshab Ashraf-Poor, M.Arch., OAA, MRAIC, Professor, Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies. M. Mehrdad Tavakkolian, Managing Director, BIM Division and Virtual Construction, Tucker HiRise Construction Inc. will be involved in all phases providing feedback and expertise to the George Brown team.
