George Brown College will work with ROXUL® and Dow Building Solutions®, as well as Empire Communities and Clearsphere consultants, to evaluate and monitor the performance of new building envelope systems on two demonstration homes.
Testing CertainTeed Smart Membrain and Blown-In Blanket
This project will continue GBC’s ongoing research relationship established with CertainTeed under the ARGILE subproject: “Doug Tarry’s Optimum Basement Wall System” and will utilize the rooftop test hut located at GBC’s Casa Loma Campus to study the performance of CertainTeed/ Saint Gobain’s Smart Membrain™ product and their blown in Optima™ fiberglass batt insulation product.

GBC will leverage its multidisciplinary research strengths in the creation of ARGILE, a “Living Lab” for Building Construction, Restoration, Energy Efficiency, Product Testing and the Development of Innovative Environmental Building Solutions, all with a focus on Sustainability and in collaboration with Industry.
The Minto Group: Four and Six Storey Wood Frame Condos – Phase 1
The Minto Group, a Canadian, integrated real estate development, construction and management company, is collaborating with George Brown College to develop new concepts for wall assemblies for four – six storey wood frame condos. By sourcing new ideas from GBC students, Minto hopes to identify cost effective wall assembly designs that meet both building code and LEED requirements, while creating superior homes for customers.
